At the risk of turning you away by belting out the Neil Diamond song, I will instead just wish you a happy beginning to the fall season. Summer is short and blissful but truly so fleeting in upstate NY that you must be very present in the moment which is a good exercise in this busy life we all lead. It says "Pay attention! Eat the ice cream !" (I happily oblige). "Do not take me for granted."
Now, we bid a fond farewell. Back-to-school, back to routines and, sadly, back to shoes. I love sweater weather, but I'm always a bit sad to leave the flip-flops and sandals behind. Overall, I get mesmerized and even energized by the vitality of noticing the seasons change.
Yes, the promise in the air is as perceptible as the crispness that creeps in here in our neck of the woods. Change of seasons means freshness and potential, but at the same time there are certain familiar patterns within the change that can be so comforting and evocative. Ahh...our old friend fall is back. A bit cozy, a bit mischievous. Stylish, yet natural. Beautiful, but a bit wild. In my mind, autumn always arrives with a marvelous bottle of wine that you've never tried before but now can't live without. Autumn has raised nuance to an art form.
I wish you the richness of the season and the novelty of a new school year that seems to stay with us no matter how many seasons we've been out of school. The combination is uniquely autumn and spectacularly intoxicating. Like the bright, deep, palette of an early October day with the smells and juiciness of over-ripened fruit practically dripping down your arms as you savor the last of it . . . I wish you joy.
I'm working on Bonnie's story for Heritage View #3 and it's a pleasure because I like her character so much. I hope you are looking forward to getting to know her better, too.
Be well!
Annie
